Design and implementation of an interactive kiosk
for the Centre d'Interprétation du puy de Dôme (Phase 1).

Centre d'interprétation du Puy de Dôme

The puy de Dome is a 1485-meters high volcanic mountain, of international reputation and classified as «Grand Site de France»
for his natural, cultural and scientific ressources. The interpretation center is meant to welcome and inform the 400 000 people
who visit the peak every year, mostly families and hikers. Its creation is part of the charter of the “grands sites de France”
that the regional council signed in 2007. The client decided to install an interactive kiosk controlled by a trackball,
that would offer 6 interactive applications in 3 languages (french, english, german). The content of those applications
would have to be educative but not patronizing, pointing out the responsability of every visitor, with the idea that
“the more you know about a natural site, the more you’ll be likely to protect it”.
Ysalide Multimedia was chosen to complete the work, which involved as much content development as production.
After an intense documentary research and meeting with the content experts, Ysalide offered to redefine the project
and to replace some of the original applications by a quiz about the entire site, which was really well received by the target audience.
The other applications involve the presentation of scientific phenomenas (meteorology, volcanology), landscaping,
technical information (paragliders). The explanations about such phenomenas, especially for the younger generation,
is really meant to raise awareness about the fragility of the mountain.
